Submarine thruster
Key results.
The first product in a new marketwith our thrusters on it
The challenge.
The client was taking a new product into a market it had never sold into, and its first units had to prove the concept. The thruster was our part of the vehicle. The client stated the performance it needed rather than a specification, and needed prototypes good enough to show the concept worked.
Most of what the thruster needed did not exist off the shelf.
Our approach.
The client set the requirement; we chose the route to it. The propulsion, the housing and the control electronics were designed for the job rather than bought in, and each was proved by test rather than on paper.
Mechanical design, electronics and firmware sat in one team, so when a test result changed one of them, the other two moved with it.
What we delivered.
Prototype thruster systems, designed and built by HQ, for the client's first autonomous submarine.
The outcome.
The client's first product in a new market, with our thrusters on it.
We can't say whose. That's usually true of our best work.
